Pre- and Post-natal nutrition

Motherhood begins before conception with proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle and continues with appropriate prenatal care, the prevention of complications when possible, and the early and effective treatment of complications. Every mom-to-be looks forward to a pregnancy at term without unnecessary interventions, the delivery of a healthy infant, and a healthy postpartum period in a positive environment that supports the physical and emotional needs of the woman, infant, and family.

Examples of women who benefit from reproductive nutrition therapy include:
Healthy women during the reproductive years (ages 12-44).
Women who experience hyperemesis gravidarum, adolescent pregnancy, maternal HIV, multiple gestation, gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia and other medical conditions during the reproductive period.
Women who may prevent congenital anomalies in their offspring through preconceptual care.
Women planning or are currently breastfeeding their infants.

Nutrition during menopause

Menopause is a normal change in a woman’s life when her period stops. During menopause a woman’s body slowly makes less of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. This often happens between the ages of 45 and 55 years old.

Making some lifestyle changes in your life can help ease your symptoms and keep you healthy.  A proper diet is more important now than before because your risks of osteoporosis (extreme bone loss) and heart disease go up at this stage of life. A healthy diet and regular exercise helps keep your weight down, helps you sleep better, makes your bones stronger, and boosts your mood.  Nutrition therapy is a great way to help find healthy ways to cope with the physiologic changes, symptoms and stress of menopause.
